Jade Luu is a gardener, food and herbals alchemist, & Nature-based learning educator based in Los Angeles, California.

Jade holds a B.A. in Journalism/Public Relations from San Jose State University and an Ed.M. in International Education Development/Peace Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a trained and certified Permaculture designer and gardener, and a Theodore Payne Foundation California Native Plants Landscaper and practitioner with over 25 years experience in K-12 & higher education pedagogy, curriculum design and community learning programming in the U.S., Japan, and China. In 1995, following a life-changing quantum experience, Jade left a career in hi-tech marketing and PR to embark on her path in Peace Education with emphasis on Environmental and Nature Connection Education. 

As a grower, educator and earth steward to Ellume Gardens, Jade has lived a nature-centered life for over 25 years teaching garden & nature learning programs in natural/biodynamic & regenerative gardening, cold/hot/vermi-composting, homesteading, and Nature reconnection. Her background includes her work experiences as Education Director for the Dr. Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) , Roots & Shoots Organization in Shanghai, China where she authored JGI’s Shanghai Roots & Shoots Million Tree Project Learning Guide on Desertification and Reforestation in China and Inner Mongolia. As an urban garden and landscape designer, her approach to designing and building biodynamic and permaculture food forests reflect a multi-faceted understanding and culmination of her trainings in Permaculture, Biodynamic, Organic, and California native plants gardening.

Aside from gardening/growing and teaching, Jade’s hobbies include homesteading practices such as slow cooking, fermenting and preserving food, growing and blending tea for health & wellness, natural plant dyeing, and making natural paints and inks. Jade’s work and life is rooted in her belief that no matter where we are in the world, we can always finds a way to Nature.
